The purpose of this Society is to:
Promote education and the development of leadership skills among youth through experiential learning
Encourage youth to register and pursue The Duke of Edinburgh's Award program for improving leadership and fostering good citizenship
Conduct leadership camps and workshops to enhance leadership skills
Run public speaking coaching programs and public speaking contests among youth to increase their skill set
Provide other programs and learning opportunities to further the leadership skills of youth

Ravinder Safaya, Chairperson
Ravinder Safaya, founder director, has over 19 years of working with youth in many capacities, such as Duke of Edinburgh's Award Leader, Youth Group Coordinator, Leadership Advisor, Scouts Leader, Venturer Advisor. He is also a founder director of the registered charity, Steps Together Foundation, engaged in the promotion of youth's self-learning and education. He is currently pursuing his Student Leader Advisor certification with Canadian Student Leadership Association and is a member of BC Association of Student Activity Advisor. Ravinder is a self-employed International Trade professional. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, and Masters in Business Administration.
Achla Safaya, Vice - Chairperson, Treasurer
Achla Safaya, founder director, has been involved in youth activities along with her husband. She is a former Volunteer of the Year Award recipient from the Save the Bay organization, RI, USA. She also is a founder director of the registered Charity, Steps Together Foundation. Achla is a self-employed business woman in the field of early childhood education. She holds a Ph.D. degree in Zoology, Diploma in Ecotoxicology, and has completed her ECE credentials.
Karn Safaya, Director-at-Large
Karn Safaya, founder director, has actively participated in youth organizations. In addition to his participation in the BC Youth Parliament, he is a recipient of the Gold Level Duke of Edinburgh Award, Queen's Venturer Award, and the Chief Scout's Award. As Director-at-Large, Karn offers guidance and direction to YLSBC on youth matters. Karn is currently a resident doctor at Ottawa Children’s Hospital.
Deepti Rajeev, Director - Program and Curriculum
Deepti Rajeev, founder director, has been working with children for over 12 years. She is passionate about providing opportunities for youth to express themselves in a safe environment. She coached our Odyssey of the Mind program for few years an contributed to our youth’s success. She is excited to be part of YLSBC and looks forward to learning and working with young minds. She teaches Science and Theory of Knowledge at an IB world school.
Tejas Goshalia, Director
Tejas, a parent volunteer, enjoys working with youth, and has contributed to our the Odyssey of the Mind program as a coach. He provided a technical insight into the problems and mentored youth accordingly. Under his guidance our youth participated in World’s Final compatition at Michigan State University, in 2017. As a Director, he offers valuable insights and fresh ideas to YLSBC's programs while retaining its core values and beliefs. He is an engineer by profession.
Ami Goshalia, Secretary
Ami, a parent volunteer, enjoys working with children, and youth as she has volunteered at schools in various capacities. She volunteered with Odyssey of the Mind Program and assumes the role of Secretary of this organization and brings along relevant experience from her professional training. Her education background is in law.
Ronita Naicker, Community Service Coordinator
Ronita, a parent volunteer enjoys working with children and youth. Throughout the years she has served on several committees for different organizations. Her favorite quote is from Mahatma Gandhi "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." This is the reason why she chose to take the position of Service Coordinator. Her goal is to help youth recognize, with being involved in service opportunities, that in order to build leadership skills they need to realize that service to others is also a quality of a leader. Her education background is that of a Professional Bookkeeper.
Keerthana Kumar, WE Charities/ Free the Children- Program Co-ordinator
Keerthana has a passion for service to the community and is learning by doing all aspects of Service Leadership. She completed her in Duke of Edinburgh's Award also Youth Leadership program and striving to complete her final levels of Leadership program. She loved the energy at BC Student Leadership Conference and Canadian Student Leadership Conference and truly believes youth have the power to make a difference in the society. She is embarking on that journey, and leading YLSBC youth with her vision and belief. She likes to take on new challenges and acquire new skills. She thoroughly enjoyed her Oriole Youth Adventure Challenge, a week-long sailing expedition with Royal Navy in the frigid waters of Pacific Ocean. Keerthana is enrolled in Simon Fraser University and is pursuing a degree in science.
